Varieties

  • Braeburn-PB217

    Braeburn

    Uniquely a New Zealand apple, Braeburn is particularly suited to our climate here in Hawke’s Bay. Picked during late March and April, it is Mr Apple’s largest production apple. Medium to large in size, it is a juicy crisp apple with firm flesh and clean sweet flavours. Braeburns are great for eating or baking and stores well.
  • Royal-Gala-PB215

    Royal Gala

    Developed in New Zealand, Royal Gala is Mr Apple’s most popular early variety. It has subtle sweet flavours and crisp firm white flesh. We harvest these in late February through to late March. Royal Gala has a bright red blush on a creamy yellow background. It is a fine eating apple and great for salads.
  • Pink-Lady-PB213

    Pink Lady TM

    This variety was bred in Australia and is grown on dwarf rootstock at selected Mr Apple orchards. Our aim is to maximize ripening and brix levels for this late harvest variety. A crisp, crunchy apple it has sweet and tart flavours with a cream dense flesh. This provocatively named apple has a pink blush colour on a pale background. It makes excellent eating.

    NZ Rose

    An exciting variety, bred in New Zealand as a superior looking and sweet eating apple. Mr Apple believes this apple has a bright future and has a marketing strategy to promote it. With a unique rose pink skin colour, New Zealand Rose has sweet flavours and crisp juicy flesh. It has a round shape with a smooth thick non-greasy skin.
  • Fuji-PB211

    Fuji

    Originally from Japan, this aromatic apple has firm texture and smooth clean skin. Mr Apple is New Zealand’s largest grower of this very popular Asian variety, which is harvested in late March and April. Colours range from a soft pink stripe to bright red on a subtle background. Fuji’s sweet flavour make it an excellent all-round apple for eating and baking.

    Granny Smith

    First grown in Australia, Mr Apple exports this popular favourite to markets in the United States and Europe. Entirely bright green, Granny Smiths are particularly refreshing with tangy zesty flavours. We harvest them in April and early May Traditionally used in apple pies and for sauce, Granny Smith’s make superb eating too.
  • Red-Delicious-Block-PB203_

    Red Delicious

    Often referred to as the American’s favourite apple, this classic heart shaped apple is striped to solid red in colour. Cosmetically very attractive, their sweet crisp flesh makes Red Delicious very popular in India, the Middle East and South East Asian markets. Harvest from mid March to mid April.

    NZ Queen

    Developed in a New Zealand natural breeding programme, NZ Queen is a cross between Gala and Splendour. NZ Queen features a deep red skin colour with a sweet flavour and crisp, juicy white flesh. It has excellent keeping quality. NZ Queen can be difficult to grow but the effort is worthwhile with wonderful eating and has become very popular in the Asian markets. Harvested from mid March to mid April.
